Fundamentals of Natural Perfumery- (Intermediate Level)

Natural Perfumery Intensive — June 9–13, 2025
Location: 1000 Flowers Academy, Grasse, France

 

Throughout the five-day program, we will explore:

  • Overview of natural perfumery raw materials: essential oils, absolutes, CO₂ extracts, resins

  • Comparison between essential oils and absolutes

  • Extraction methods and sourcing principles

  • Quality control and evaluation of natural ingredients

  • Olfactive families: Chypre, Fougère, Amber, Floral, etc.

  • Building and modifying accords

  • Understanding  the Jean Carles Method 

  • Fundamentals of formulation structure and integrating bases (ethanol, carrier oils)

  • Filtering techniques for natural perfumes

  • IFRA safety regulations and allergen calculations

  • Integrating marketing and communication strategies for natural perfume brands

Students will practise through structured olfactive exercises, work daily on creating accords, and formulate complete natural perfumes by the end of the week.

Schedule:
Classes will run daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch break.
Lunch is included each day.

Lunch provided (please provide dietary requirements in advance, but in general, all will be vegetarian).

Price per student for includes 5 days of study: 9am to 5pm with 1 hour for lunch:  Maximum 7 students. 

*One field trip will be organised and during the week to either visit the International Perfumery Gardens, or a local flower producer. We will also have the option to visit the International Perfumery Museum for a guided tour if time allows.

  • Fundamentals of Modern Perfumery

    Study in the 1000 Flowers Academy, on the main square of the historic city of Grasse in the south of France.  We will cover various technical areas of foundational perfumery, with a focus on natural botanicals, synthetic molecules, and sustainable modern ingredients,  formulation,  safety standards, and small business development.    

    Maximum 6 students per session.
